I don’t know why the mainstream media hasn’t latched onto this story because it’s a true populist, everyman story.
Luckily for us in the College Park area we have the College Park Patch which is one of he best resources for all things College Park around.
It seems that there is a truck driver that got a ticket from one of those speed cameras that are supposed to encourage “public safety” and have nothing to do with filling local coffers with much needed revenue. According to this article, the American Automobile Association (Mid-Atlantic) decided to help out with a motorist who got a ticket in an area a speed camera was not supposed to be…and he wasn’t even speeding!
All I can say is that I’m proud that AAA Mid-Atlantic is fighting on the side of the angels with this issue. Yeah. Speed cameras do tend to slow people down a bit but they’re really about revenue and there are laws on the books about where they can be placed. Locations that have the possibility of creating the most $40 tickets are not on the menu.
Thanks to Shannon Hoffman of the College Park Patch for staying on top of this.
