Tunnelling Through the Snow to my Heat Pump
I wrote about the importance of keeping your heat pump or outdoor air conditioning compressor cleared of snow and the like to allow it to work properly and more efficiently. With all the snow in the area and more to come in the next few days, I had to work to create a path in order to clear out the space around it. I actually trudged through waist high snow a few days ago after the first of the snowfall. I took the opportunity today, though, to clear a path so that when the future snow comes — most likely tomorrow night and into Wednesday — it won’t be as hard to get to.
Here’s a short video of the path and a view of my back yard.

Wow, I think it is time for the “emergency heat”.
Another heating issue sprang up with high efficiency gas furnaces in this storm. It seems the snow was so high that it covered the “furnace fresh air intake” pipe causing the system to shut down. One more thing to pay attention to!
